Position and direction · Year 4
In Year 4 you learn: moving shapes on a grid (translations).
Position and direction tell us where things are and how to get there. We describe turns as fractions of a whole turn (or in degrees), use compass directions, and give moves on a grid as so many squares across and up.
Key facts
- Clockwise goes the same way as clock hands: north → east → south → west.
- Your right is a quarter turn clockwise from the way you face; your left is a quarter turn anticlockwise.
- On a grid, count across first, then up or down.
