Money · Year 6

In Year 6 you learn: budgets and best buys.

Money is counted in coins and notes. 100 pence make £1, and 100 cents make $1, €1 or R1. We add up prices, work out change, compare deals and plan budgets.

Key facts

  • £1 = 100p, $1 = 100¢, €1 = 100c, R1 = 100c.
  • Always write two digits after the point: £4.05 is 4 pounds and 5 pence; £4.50 is 4 pounds and 50 pence.
  • To count coins, start with the biggest and count on.
  • Best value: work out the price of one item (or of 100 g) for each offer.
  • With a budget, add up everything you spend and take it away from what you have.
