Can you guess how many bones a baby has?
An adult skeleton has 206 bones. A newborn baby has more, around 300, though many of them are still partly soft cartilage. Tap the parts of the skeleton to name them. Where do you think the “extra” bones go as a baby grows?

They join together (fuse). A baby’s skull has soft gaps between its bony plates, so the head can squeeze through at birth and the brain has room to grow; later the plates lock together. Bones at the bottom of the spine fuse too.
