Place value · Year 3
In Year 3 you learn: hundreds, tens and ones.
In our number system the same digit is worth different amounts depending on its place: in 707 the first 7 is worth 700 and the last is worth 7. Each place is worth ten times the place to its right, which is why multiplying by 10 moves every digit one place to the left.
Key facts
- × 10 moves every digit one place left; ÷ 10 moves every digit one place right.
- To compare, line up the places and compare from the left.
