Charts and graphs · Grade 5

In Grade 5 you learn: time graphs.

Charts turn a table of numbers into a picture you can read at a glance. Bar charts compare separate groups. Pie charts show how a whole is shared out. Line graphs show how something changes over time.

Key facts

  • Bar chart: go across from the top of a bar to the scale, and check what each gridline is worth.
  • A dual bar chart puts two groups side by side to compare them.
  • Check the scale: an axis that does not start at 0 can make small differences look big.
